Lauren Alaina Suddeth, Season 11

York area fans say it’s a girl’s year on Idol

Could Skylar Laine win this thing?

Hey, that would rhyme if it could write with some Skylar twang.

Anyway, I figured what better place to find out who York area fans support in the quest for the Season 11 American Idol crown than at Saturday’s York Revolution Fan Fest, where Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina was a star attraction.

The overwhelming favorite among this crowd, Skylar Laine.

Now, keep in mind, it’s more likely that a country music fan would turn out to see Lauren than anyone else, so this random survey was anything but scientific.

But not one iota of love for Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Elise Testone and very little for Jessica Sanchez?  It could be a reflection of who’s connecting with viewers and who isn’t.

Here’s what the fans had to say:

Emily Gruszczynski, 14, of New Freedom:  Likes Skylar because she has a very good voice.

Sierra Clary, 14, Glen Rock:  Says she’s followed Skylar since her audition and has been impressed ever since.

Carlie Sartiano, 27, Mount Wolf:  Likes Skylar because she puts on a real good show and has deep country roots.

Tiffany Rohrbaugh, 28, Manchester:  Likes Skylar and says she reminds her of Miranda Lambert, “a mini-Miranda Lambert.”

Liz Cool, 29, York:  Likes Skylar because she has “a great personality and seems like a rock star.”

Veronica Waltermeyer, 63, Red Lion:  Prefers Skylar because of her voice.

Jessica Loder, 27, York:  Prefers Skylar because she has a good voice and sings country music.

Trinity Quigg, 11, York:   Likes Skylar because she has a nice voice.

Kendra Wert, 18, of Fleetwood, Pa.:  Prefers Phillip Phillips because of his voice.

Carrie Sterner, 22, of Fleetwood, Pa.:  Prefers Phillip Phillips because she thinks his voice is unique and “he’s not trying to be someone else.”

Ashley Pollard, 22, of Red Lion:  Prefers Phillip Phillips because he’s unique and has a really nice voice.

Julie Rohrbaugh, 48, Manchester:  Perfers Jessica Sanchez because her voice is so pure and she seems so natural.

So  there you have it, 12 fans chime in.   Eight prefer Skylar, three like Phillip, one thinks Jessica should win.

And that’s despite the fact that every fan was female and a gal hasn’t won Idol since Season 7.

Never mind that.

“It’s a girl’s year (on Idol),” Tiffany Rohrbaugh says.

But, hold it, how about the star of Saturday’s show?

Lauren Alaina:  Who should win American Idol?

“Phillip Phillips,” she says, answering my question.

Why? “He’s from Georgia.  He’s a Georgia Peach.”

Naturally.
