Zach Seabaugh says he certainly felt like a bit of an underdog heading into his battle round match against Tyler Dickerson on The Voice.

After all, Zach was 16 when he auditioned for the show.

When Tyler, 21, was 16, he already had a recording contract in Nashville and was touring as an opening act for Brooks & Dunn.

“It was definitely intimidating get paired up with him,” Zach said in a Tuesday conference call with the media. “At the same time, I’m really thankful I had the opportunity to go up against Tyler because of that. It gave me a challenge.”

Zach won, of course, and now advances to the knockout round. Tyler was eliminated.

The song they performed –“I’m Gonna Be Somebody” — was also a challenge because it’s in a higher key and required more vocal strength, Zach said. Then again, he pointed out that the lyrics helped him connect with the song.

“I’m glad Blake had some faith in me,” the teen from Marietta, Ga., said. “I felt really good about my performance. Vocally, I worked as hard as I could.”

Keep checking back. I’ll be posting more recaps of battle round matches.
