Season Seven, Season Seven Semifinals

Surprise among the ousted Idols

0

Anyone out there surprised by any of the American Idol departures Thursday night?

I was, slightly, at the ouster of Colton Berry. It makes little difference in the long run. His chance of making the final 12 was slim. But his rendition of “Suspicious Minds” came off better than the performances of several of his male counterparts.

Frampton look-alike Garrett Hailey and plus-size model Joanne Borgella paid the price for poor opening performances. I was really hoping Amy Davis would slide through for another week. Alas, it wasn’t to be.

Chikezie and rocker-nurse Amanda Overmyer deservedly found themselves on the brink of elimination. My guess is we’ll see better from Chikezie in the future. My guess is that Overmyer is too one dimensional to hang around for long.

One piece of advice for Ryan Seacrest et al: Quit calling this group of contestants the show’s best ever until they prove it.

In week one, they didn’t.
