Nearly eight years after leaving the American Idol stage after finishing second to Fantasia, Diana DeGarmo filmed her first music video Tuesday.

“My very first music video has officially been shot,” she said in a tweet from Malibu. “I’m in awe.”

The video is for a song called “Good Goodbye,” and, according to @dianadnews, it’s a country song that will eventually be released as a single and will debut next Friday on the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless.”

If you’re not a fan of the soaps, you might not know that Diana landed a role on the show as a mobster’s daughter, making her debut on Oct. 31.

In something of a twist, she plays the role of Angelina, an aspiring singer who really cant’ sing.

Diana calls purposely singing badly “liberating” in a video interview about her role.

“It’s been fun to pick whatever note I find and just go for it, and being strong and loud,” she says with a smile. “You throw your ego completely to the wind … It’s been funny to watch the cast and crews’ faces as I hit some just cat howling notes.”

Of course, Diana didn’t land the role because of a history of singing badly.

While Fantasia stole the Season 3 spotlight, Diana has quietly put together a solid post-Idol career with theatrical roles on and off Broadway.

Nor should the country spin on this single surprise anyone.  Diana’s only musical release since her 2004 debut album was an EP called “Unplugged in Nashville,” released in 2009.

By the way, Diana also has a role in the just-released, straight-to-DVD film, “Wyatt Earp’s Revenge.”  Val Kilmer stars, country music star Trace Adkins has a minor role, and Diana is the top-billed female in the role of Dora Hand.
