Corey Ward is among the artists to announce that they auditioned for Season 20 of The Voice.

Here’s more about Corey.

* Some Voice fans might remember Corey. At age 33, the singer from Hartsville, S.C., auditioned in the Season 19 premiere with Kaleo’s “Way Down We Go.”

* He didn’t turn a chair, but got some positive feedback from the judges. Gwen Stefani said she liked the gravel in his voice; Kelly Clarkson complimented him for having a “rad tone.”

* Corey took to Facebook to thank supporters after the show aired, saying the experience and the friends he made was worth auditioning even without a chair turn.

* During his Voice bio package, Corey said he began performing music at 13, joined his first band at 14 and had been playing music for 20 years.

* He said his sister and mother had been urging him to try The Voice for a long time. He eventually decided to do it “for my mom.” She was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, and got to watch him audition virtually.

* Now based in Atlanta, Corey told his hometown radio station that he chose “Way Down We Go” for his audition song because it’s one he’s performed with different bands he’s played with and had always gotten a good reaction to it.

* In that interview, he also said The Voice experience “reminded me how much I do love music. It put a fire under my butt to write music, to create, to work on an album.”

Editor’s note: Season 20 of The Voice is scheduled to kick off Monday, March 1 on NBC.
