Here’s more about David. The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20.
* David is frontman for the Westchester, N.Y.-based band JADN. The band also includes guitarist Jeremy Vogel (David’s brother), bassist Aaron Bishop, guitarist Nick Gamble, and drummer Matt Kalapuch.
* The band’s YouTube bio explains JADN’s music this way: “fusing the best elements of rock, pop & 80’s music to create something both fresh, yet familiar.”
* The band released a debut album, “City Skies,” in November 2019. An instrumental track David wrote in 2017 eventually became the album’s title track.
* JADN has performed extensively in the New York area, including at the Rockwood Music Hall. But plans to tour outside the state in 2020 were stymied by the pandemic.
* Instead, the band used the time to record and produce new music in a bedroom studio, releasing a four-song EP called “A Futile Attempt” in July. You can check out the music video for “All or Nothing” below.
* In a Like the Color podcast interview, David says he’s been singing as long as he can remember. But he didn’t take it seriously until he became a teenager.
* He picked up a guitar around age 13 or 14 and started songwriting. Mostly, at first, “to impress girls,” he admits. “But then it became a much deeper part of my life as soon as I learned how much I could emote through music.”
* The band’s name isn’t as mysterious as it might appear. It’s an acronym for the first name of the band members, David explains. “Unfortunately, Matt wasn’t in the band when we made the name, otherwise we might have had a different name. And Matt’s cool with it.”
* In the podcast interview, David says the biggest difference between the band’s first two projects is that with the first, the band was inclined to try to “fit a mold” to gain acceptance. With the second, there was a desire to be “more original and different, not being afraid to break the boundaries, to be a little more unorthodox.”
