Holly Forbes had turned four chairs with her wonderful cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” at the end of Monday’s show, but The Voice didn’t reveal which coach she chose.
Turns out, she opted to join Team Kelly, giving the original American Idol three four-chair turn artists on her team already.
The others are R&B singer Gymani and the sibling trio Girl Named Tom.
Eight other artists earned spots on the show Tuesday.
But the very bad news is that montages are back after a two or three season absence.
The Voice aired just a tiny snippet of the auditions of Team Blake’s Clint Sherman and Barritt Haynes.
I will never figure this show out. Last night, we got nearly full auditions from three artists who didn’t make the show. We got a nearly full audition tonight from Kayla Lilly, who failed to turn a chair.
I don’t know, it just seems to me that artists who MAKE the show deserve more airtime than artists who don’t.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Kaitlyn Velez, 21, Long Island, N.Y., “Please Don’t Go” by Mike Posner: Her ukulele accompanied performance prompted quick chair turns from Blake Shelton and John Legend. John said he loved her vibrato. Ariana said she loves Kaitlyn voice. Blake said there’s no one like Kaitlyn on his team. Kaitlyn decided to join Team Blake.
RUNNER-UP
Bella DeNapoli,22, Long Island, N.Y., “Damaged” by Danity Kane: Though clearly impressed with Bella’s vocals, the coaches stayed put until near the end of the performance when Ariana, John and Kelly turned almost simultaneously. John complimented her on creating a whole new version of the song. Kelly loved the “heart” in her performance. Ariana called Bella “a great singer” who’s vocals ranged from folk style to goddess. Bella joined Team Ariana.
ALSO MADE THE SHOW
David Vobel, 23, New York, “Breathin'” by Ariana Grande: David served up a unique version of Ariana’s song. And it took until the final notes before he enticed Ariana to turn her chair. Ariana said she loved David’s take on it and his style. Pre-audition, David said Ariana was his dream coach.
Janora Brown, 22, Wingate, N.C., “Angel of Mine” by Monica: Her opening prompted chair turns from Kelly and John. John called her version of the song “really cool.” Blake said she has an instantly recognizable voice. Janora decided to join Team John.
The Cunningham Sisters, Hamilton, Ohio, “Never Alone” by Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin: Macie, 15, and Marie, 14, Cunningham quickly had the coaches wondering if they were indeed listening to a duo. Then Kelly and John turned, guaranteeing them a spot on the show. The girls finished the song holding hands. John noted that he’s the only coach without a group so far. Kelly immediately started coaching the duo and complimented them on their amazing voices. The Cunningham Sisters joined Team Kelly.
MONTAGES ARE BACK, UGH!
Berritt Haynes, 19, Pell City, Alabama, “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes: The performance was montaged. Only Blake turned.
Clint Sherman, Heath, Texas, “Browned Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison: The performance was montaged. Only Blake turned.
