Wednesday night, Scotty McCreery was named the American Idol for Season 10.

Thursday afternoon (well, morning where he is), Scotty talked to the media about Idol and his future in music.

“This is pretty wild, I gotta say,” he said. “A whole lot more than I bargained for when I got into this.  It’s been a crazy ride.”

Scotty said he might be headed to Nashville soon to perform at the CMA Musicfest (June 9-12) and, perhaps, the Grand Ole Opry.

Among the other thoughts he shared …

* Scotty said he heard front-runner and favorite talk about him, but he never took that for granted, especially considering the strength of the Season 10 cast. He said he certainly didn’t take anything for granted this week, adding that Lauren Alaina is amazing.

* Scotty said his relationship with Lauren Alaina is more of a brother-sister relationship, not a romantic one. “We’ve been getting that question a lot today.” Perhaps partly because Lauren kissed him at the end of  last night’s finale. “She told me she was going to do that as a joke.”

* Scotty said he recorded two songs this week, including the single we’ve already heard. Both are likely to be on the album. He says he also hopes to do a duet with Lauren at some point. He declined to name the second song.

* It’s a good thing music worked, because he joked that he doesn’t think he would have made it past high school as a baseball player.

* The remarkable basketball shot from the balcony came on his third try. “I was trying from the (mansion) steps and was missing terribly.”

* He called it “really amazing” that “Love You This Big” is currently the top single on iTunes.

* Scotty says he thought for sure Lauren had wrapped up the Idol crown with her final performance Tuesday night. “I was more than nervous,” he says of his prospects in the finale.
