Lauren Alaina entered American Idol as a 15-year-old, but had already gained front-runner status by the time the contestants headed to Hollywood.

She didn’t disappoint, making it all the way to the Season 10 finals before losing to fellow teen and fellow country singer Scotty McCreery Wednesday night.

On Friday, Lauren Alaina (last name Suddeth) talked about her Idol experience and her future in music.

* About her voice problems this week, Lauren said “the show must go on. I just had to go out there and do the best I could.” For a while, it appeared Lauren might not be able to go on Tuesday night after spraining a vocal chord in rehearsal.

* Lauren said she decided not to use her last name because people never pronounce her last name right, jokingly adding that Ryan Seacrest would never have been able to say it.  “But I will always be Lauren Suddeth.”

* Asked about her relationship with Scotty, specifically whether they were boyfriend or girlfriend, she said “just friends.”

* She says she never considered waiting to audition.  If something is your dream, you should pursue it, she said.

* Like Scotty, she said she expects to make an appearance at CMA Fanfest in mid-June.

* Lauren admits she felt confident when Idol started, but then saw herself on TV and started getting critical of herself, something that knocked her back “a couple of notches.” She felt as though she regained her confidence as the show went on.

* Asked what she’d like people to know about her, she said people call her a dumb blond, but she’s really not. She likes school and her favorite subject is math.

* She says her smile at the end of Wednesday’s show was genuine, that she couldn’t have picked a better person than Scotty to finish second to.

* Lauren said one of her idols is Carrie Underwood and getting to sing with her Wednesday night was a thrill. Even more amazing, she said, was getting to spend some time talking to Carrie at an after-party for the Idol contestants and realizing she’s as genuine as portrayed. Some day, Lauren said, she’d like young girls to look up to her in the same way.

At age 81, I never fail to be amazed at the talent, morals, looks and all the good things one could say about you AND Scotty. You give me a picture of our youth that I would like to be able to pin on all our youth, but you know I can’t do. Please keep yourself like you are and continue to give the world an image that can only be reflected in the reallife that you portray. I have written 100s of songs and have some that can be career or signature songs. My email address is above should you like me to send you three or four or 10 !!! songs-radio quality. I had never seen Idol ’til my wife told me about you and Scotty, then I was hooked and still feel the same. Good luck in your every endeavor.
