Kayko of American Idol Season 22

Idol returned to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 18 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie back intact.

Here’s more about Kayko.

* He describes himself as an “alt-pop music boy that makes happy songs out of sad words.” And he no longer has blue hair.

* Apparently, blue hair was something of a trademark when Kayko was releasing music as Your Best Friend’s Favorite Band.

* That ended in 2022 when Kayko transitioned from his band projct to becoming a solo act.

* Kayko told Canvas Rebel: “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done because I put my blood, sweat & tears into my band project, but I knew in my heart that it had to come to an end.”

* He adds: “I feel like, as an artist, it’s our duty to create what feels authentic, and I got to a point where I knew I needed to change my sound and my branding to better represent where I am in my life.”

* From Miami, Kayko got involved in musical theater at a young age and attended the Berklee College of Music.

* His mother died in 2019, and Kayko said he turned to music to help him through the grieving process, “writing songs about liberation from sadness; songs to help those who have experienced hardship.”

* Between the band and solo venture, Kayko has released a good deal of music. Three songs from a 2022 album — led by “Crash & Burn” — have more than 200,000 streams on Spotify.

* And he’s already released a pair of singles in 2024, “I Remember Us” and “Second First Love.”

* Of the latter, Kayko writes: “Wanted to write a song about that magic feeling you get when you fall in love for the first time … but the cool thing we realized when writing was that there are ALWAYS more firsts and love is always gonna be different.
