His audition: Braxton Garza, 28, Adrian, Michigan, performed “Pretty Little Poison” by Warren Zeiders: He showed off a nice deep voice with a touch of rasp and got early chair turns from Michael Buble and Kelsea Ballerini. Only Kelsea was blocked by Michael, who had said he might have to resort to that tactic to land a country-leaning artist. Kelsea was bummed by the block saying Braxton is “so good.” She called his voice “so special.” Michael said he was determined to get Braxton because of the great character in his voice and was thrilled the block worked.

The Voice returns Monday, Feb. 3 with the coaching quarter of Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Buble, John Legend and Adam Levine.

* He’s a 28-year-old artist from Adrian, Michigan who’s focus now appears to be country music.

* But he’s also a very versatile performer with a number of original R&B / rap tracks on Soundcloud. Those tracks are from six years ago or more.

* His most recent cover on Instagram is a Jon Pardi tune and the videos featured on his YouTube channel include covers of songs by Zac Bryan, Morgan Wallen and Chris Stapleton.

* That said, his Instagram features a wide range of covers, including Bill Withers’ “Just the Two of Us,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You.”

* Braxton already has more than 5,500 followers and more then 20,000 likes on his TikTok.

* He’s the father of two young children, a boy and a girl.

* Braxton’s a graduate of Madison High School in Michigan.

* In his Voice bio, Braxton says one of his musical inspirations was his grandfather, a musician, who gave him his first guitar.

* Braxton lost his father in 2021 after he came down with COVID. Braxton recorded “Go Rest High on That Mountain” for his dad’s memorial service.

* He works with a parks and recreation department while co-parenting his children, Iyra and Russell.

* And Braxton released a single called “No Good” in late February. “Super excited to start sharing everything by we’ve been working on. Blessed with all the opportunities I’ve been given from this wild journey,” he wrote on Instagram.

Update: Braxton was eliminated in The Voice battle round. His opponent was Jayden Cree.
