Idol Chatter & Voice Views

Her audition: Allie Rae, 15, Sante Fe, Texas, “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles: Allie sounds older than 15 on this. Her opening prompted an almost instant chair turn from Riley Green. Kelly Clarkson quickly followed. Allie’s vocal firepower and touch of rasp earned a chair turn from Queen Latifah as well. Queen Latifah called her performance natural and her vocal exquisit. Riley said he was impressed with the way she made the song her own and thinks her ability to do that could serve her well on the show. Kelly reminded her that she’s won with young country artists. Riley hit his first-in button, claiming Allie Rae for her team and said he saved it to use on someone he thinks can win the show. (Watch her audition below)

Here’s more about Allie Rae:

* She’s Allie Rae Whittington, a 15-year-old country-soul artist from the Sante Fe, Texas, area.

* And in spite of her youth, she’s already released lots of music, including a new single called “Once I Make Up My Mind” that you can check out below.

* Her other original releases include “Cinderella for a Night” from 2024 and “Say Goodbye” from 2025. She was just 13 when her debut single dropped.

* And in 2023, she released an 11-song album called “On My Way” that includes covers of a wide range of classics, including “I Will Survive,” “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “My Church.”

* On her website, she describes her music as “blending the soulful grit of blues with the heartfelt storytelling of country” to “deliver a sound far beyond her years.”

* And she says it all started when she competed in a talent show in the second grade and got hooked on music and performing.

* Along the way, she has racked up some impressive accolades, including winning the Houston Rodeo Rockstar competition in 2013 and being nominated as Best New Artist (under 18) in this year’s Texas Country Music Awards.

* Already an experienced performer, one of her biggest shows to date came earlier this year when she opened for the Eli Young Band.

* Update: Allie dropped a fun new single called “Two Step” on Sept. 13. There’s a music video too. One, she apparently just finished filming over Labor Day weekend. Check it out below.
