Idol Chatter & Voice Views

His audition: Luke Curran, 31, Sarasota, Fla., “Operator” by Jim Croce: Luke’s unique singer-songwriter sound got an almost immediate chair turn from Riley Green. Adam Levine quickly followed. Adam loved Luke’s voice and his song choice. Riley praised Luke’s story-telling ability and said it only took him a couple of notes to know he needed to turn his chair. Adam said he grew up listening to the type of music Luke opted to sing for his audition. A day-one Voice fan, Luke said he had to join Team Adam. (Watch his audition below)

Here’s more about Luke:

* On his website, he describes himself as an Americana singer-songwriter. He plays multiple instruments, but typically accompanies himself on guitar. He’s based in Boston.

* He descirbes his music as “shaped by the heartland of northern Michiigan, the sunlit traditions of Florida’s gulf coast and Boston’s vibrant folk revival.”

* As for those multiple instruments, Luke is also a classically trained pianist, according to his web bio.

* As for the Florida influence, he attended the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

* But at some point, he apparently took a break from music. He released a debut single called “Leaving Home” in late 2024 and writes on social media: “It just feels right to be making music again after a long long time off. Can’t wait to show y’all what’s next.”

* What’s next was a five-song EP called “Hymns” that dropped in the spring of 2025. You can check out a live version of the excellent title track below.

* And he released a fine new song called “State Lines” this week, just days before The Voice Season 30 premiere.

* Luke says he’s been playing music his “whole life” and his sound has been compared to a combination of Jason Isbell and Tyler Childers.
