One of the feel good stories of Season 3 on The Voice is that of Daniel Rosa.

In Season 2, the 21-year-old from Riverside, Ca., performed “Animal” during the blind auditions and failed to entice a judge to turn around.

He returned this year, buoyed by the Season 2 experience, convinced he’d found the confidence needed to succeed.

“It was just confidence that was missing,” he told The Voice. “That was the biggest gift The Voice gave to me.  It changed my whole outlook on myself.”

Why?

Well, Daniel said the feedback after the show was positive. That he wound up with a lot more fans and a lot more gigs.

This time around, he performed a quirky version of Goyte’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.”

It took a while, but midway through the performance, Blake and Cee Lo turned their chairs around.

What seemed to touch Daniel most was that the judges remembered him from the Season 2 audition and complimented him on following the advice he’d been given.

“Obviously, you worked hard at it,” Blake said.

Responded Daniel: “The best thing that happened to me was not making a team last year.”

As for this year’s audition, Cee Lo said it “was the kind of rendition of a recent record that this show salivates for.”

No wonder Daniel picked Cee Lo as his coach.

What the show didn’t show: On Facebook, Daniel tells us his music is ukulele-based and that he writes music. “My songs are heart broken love songs,” he writes. “With a little twist of humor when I’m in the mood. LOL.” On his Voice blog, we find out that his Season 2 audition was something of a mistake; he was in the audition line to support a friend. And the Press-Enterprise newspaper reports that family members wore fake black-rimmed glasses and T-shirts bearing his logo — an outline of glasses with his hair — at a celebratory show he performed last Friday (Sept. 21). Wondering about the name Daniel has given his ukulele? Well, it’s named LuLu, of course. Besides the video below, you can hear a couple of Daniel covers here.
