Doesn’t this look familiar?
It’s almost like the American Idol finals all over again.
Except perhaps even more lopsided in terms of female singing talent.
When fans of The Voice sent Kris Thomas and Josiah Hawley home Tuesday night, the show lost its final two male soloists.
That leaves a final eight of seven ladies and one duet, The Swon Brothers, the only guys left standing after three weeks of fan voting.
The elimination of Kris and Josiah wasn’t exactly a shock. They had the two weakest performing singles on iTunes from Monday’s show.
But it means there won’t be a male soloist in The Voice finals for the first time in the show’s history.
Think back.
Javier Colon won Season 1. Jermaine Paul won Season 2 after a finale that featured three guys (Chris Mann and Tony Lucca being the others) and just one gal (Juliet Simms).
And when Cassadee Pope became the show’s first female winner last fall, she had to compete against two guys — Nicholas David and Terry McDermott — in the finals.
So where did all the male talent go on The Voice Season 4?
Patrick Dodd and Mark Andrew looked oh, so promising, but couldn’t make it through the battle round.
Luke Edgemon brought Glee credentials to the show and got scooped up by Blake Shelton after a battle round loss. But he couldn’t survive a knockout round match with Holly Tucker.
The way Holly’s done, it’s tough to argue with that outcome.
The biggest flub in terms of male talent was committed by rookie coach Usher.
He advanced Cathia from the knockout round instead of pop-soul singer-songwriter Ryan Innes, who had been oh, so impressive to that point.
I call it a flub because Cathia was gone a week later while Ryan looked like he had the talent to compete for the Season 4 crown.
So now we’re down to seven ladies and one male duet.
Yet, it’s looking awfully familiar.
