Alex Preston scores an iTunes hit for American Idol

And the most popular American Idol song from Top 5 night is …

“Say Something” by Alex Preston.

Alex PrestonThat should not come as a huge shock.

Alex did a brilliant job with the song and got great critiques from the judges.

And this morning the song is sitting at number 37 on the iTunes overall singles chart, a week after none of the Idols were on iTunes the morning after performance night.

Two other songs from Wednesday’s show had also cracked the Top 200 by 2 p.m. — “Summertime Sadness” by Jess Meuse and “How to Save a Life” by Sam Woolf.

That’s right, folks, the two perceived front-runners in the competition — Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson — failed to crack the overall singles chart.

Here’s where everyone stood as of 2 p.m.

* Alex Preston, “Say Something” — #37 on overall singles chart; #18 on iTunes pop chart

* Jess Meuse, “Summertime Sadness” — #140 on overall singles chart; #19 on alternative chart

* Sam Woolf, “How to Save a Life” — #160 on overall singles chart; #44 on pop chart

* Caleb Johnson, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” — #9 on rock chart

* Jena Irene, “My Body” — #44 on alternative chart.
