The first-ever winner of the short-lived X Factor USA is offering fans a listen to her new single, but only for a limited time.
Melanie Amaro posted “Fuel My Fire” on Thursday and said the song will be available for 48 hours.
It’s the lead single off an EP she plans to release by the same name. In the tweet announcing the single, Melanie didn’t mention a release date.
The song is about persevering in the face of critics. And, in fact, being inspired by them.
The chorus goes like this: “Go ahead and pour the gasoline on my name (I love it, fuel my fire) / To me it’s just another log in the flame (I think I love it, fuel my fire).”
As for Melanie and the X Factor, the announcement pretty much confirms what followers of the show suspect: We’ll never see a debut album from her under the Sony label she was signed to after winning the first season of Simon Cowell’s singing show.
Melanie released four singles — “Respect,” “Don’t Fail Me Now,” “Love Me Now” and “Long Distance” — under that record deal. None of them caught on.
