DaNica Shirey earns a spot in the Top 8 on The Voice

“Bigger and bolder” worked for DaNica Shirey.

The 25-year-old from York breezed into The Voice Top 8 based on fan voting Tuesday night.

Late last week, before DaNica could reveal what she was singing during Monday’s Top 10 show, she said she was going “bigger and bolder” with her song choice.

“I love this song. It’s (by) somebody I’ve looked up to my whole life,” DaNica said at the time.

That translated into covering Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing,” surely “a big job” in the words of Blake Shelton.

But it earned DaNica another round of praise from The Voice judges and a standing ovation from a crowd of more than 100 fans who had congregated to support her at a watch party in York.

The performance also marked DaNica’s best showing yet on iTunes. The song landed at number 49 on the iTunes singles chart.

Advancing to the Top 8 capped a week in which she got to meet Clive Davis and was mentored not only by coach Parrell Williams, but by music legend Diana Ross.
