The save is gone on American Idol Season 14.
Time will tell whether that was a good move on the part of the Idol judges.
But that also means there will be no more save-me songs.
So presumably, only nine of the remaining 11 contestants on American Idol will get to perform Wednesday night.
Of course, I’m not sure who will and who won’t, so I’ll have to rank the Top 11 all over again.
Here goes, with last week’s ranking in parenthesis.
1. Clark Beckham (1): Nothing that happened during Clark’s performance of “Sunday Morning” last week convinced me that he should budge from the top spot. Certainly not the way the ladies in the audience screamed.
2. Jax (2): She wasn’t “Bang Bang” special last week, but she took a risk singing an Adam Sandler song on movie night and, for the most part, it worked.
3. Joey Cook (5): Her performance of “Mad World” was my favorite on movie night. It was also her most crowd-pleasing performance. And she did it without her squeeze box or ukulele.
4. Quentin Alexander (4): He’s won me over, but I still wonder if he’s mainstream enough to advance as far as he should on a show called American Idol.
5. Tyanna Jones (3): The teen had been pretty much invincible until last week, when I wasn’t thrilled with her song choice (“Circle of Life”) and the judges weren’t thrilled with her performance.
6. Nick Fradiani (6): He’s shown a bit of improvement every time he’s stepped on stage since the finals began. Now Harry wants Nick to show off his “sexy.” If he does, look out above.
7. Adanna Duru (9): This is where I think she should be ranked vocally and as a performer because she’s a dynamo when she takes the stage. She could also be in trouble after performing first a week ago.
8. Qaasim Middleton (8): I’m on the record as saying the judges were wrong for using the save last week. But it’s easy to see why they were swept up by Qaasim’s impassioned performance. It will probably earn enough votes to keep him safe this week, too.
9. Rayvon Owen (7): I didn’t like his rearrangement of “Stayin’ Alive” last week because it pretty much killed the song. He also got worst reviews from the judges than Daniel Seavey, which is a bit difficult to believe.
10. Maddie Walker (10): One simple piece of advice for Maddie should she get to perform again (and I’m not sure she will). You’re the only country singer on the show: Sing country for crying out loud.
11. Daniel Seavey (11): I read a tweet comparing him to David Archuleta. One big difference: David could sing much, much, much better. It’s time to send 15-year-old Daniel packing.
