Jordan Smith completed his triumphant run on The Voice Season 9 Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old from Kentucky was announced the winner over runner-up Emily Ann Roberts in a result that surprised no one.
Jeffery had scored three number one hits on iTunes over the course of the show, did it again after Monday’s performance finale and led the contestants on iTunes every week but one after the show went live.
And while he got a big boost from the show, which seemed to choose him as its favorite from the blind audition on, he also clearly connected with fans.
Four of his songs landed in the Top 10 on iTunes this week. Five others cracked the Top 50.
During Tuesday’s show, coach Adam Levine praised not only Jordan’s vocal talent, but his humility.
“There’s something incredibly dignified about who he is,” Adam said during one of those Voice confessionals. “He deserves to win.”
Jordan, 22, recalled sitting in music theory class in college “dreaming of something like this.”
He said his time on the show taught him “you don’t have to fit the mold everyone says you have to fit.”
Barrett Baber finished third and Jeffery Austin finished fourth.
