Sorry, but I refused to blog about Christmas music in mid-October, which is when Jordan Smith’s holiday album was released.
Who else from The Voice family is serving up sounds of the season?
Glad you asked. Here’s the rundown so far.
* Abby Celso: The young woman from Rochester, N.Y., earned a spot on Team Pharrell in Season 10 and advanced to the knockout round. Her new holiday song “Twas The Night” came out Nov. 1 and marks her first post-Voice release.
* Blind Joe: He released an album called “By the Fans, for the Fans” earlier this year. Now Blind Joe is back with “An Acoustic Country Christmas,” seven tracks complete with covers of “Winter Wonderland,” “Jingle Bells” and four other tunes you’ll be familiar with. Blind Joe completes the set with what he calls his “dirty Christmas song,” and he’s not joking, so be forewarned. It’s one you probably haven’t heard. Blind Joe made the knockout round on Season 9 as a member of Team Blake.
* Caroline Glaser: Kris Allen, Season 8 winner of that other singing show, released a 10-track Christmas album earlier this month that features a neat acoustic cover of “Jingle Bells” featuring Caroline. A Top 16 finisher on Season 4, Caroline also released her third-post show EP this year, titled simply “Caroline Glaser.”
* Caroline Pennell: A Top 8 finisher in Season 5, Caroline released the three-track “December Songs” earlier this month. The opening track, “This Year,” featuring a vocal assist from Aaron Espe, is especially impressive. Caroline has already releases three singles this year — “Lovesick,” “Say It in Silence” and “Follow the Sun.” She’s also featured on Syn Cole’s EDM cover of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s “Californication.”
* Chris Jamison: Freed from a record contract that produced no new music, the third-place finisher from Season 7 is making up for lost time, following up on his debut EP from August with a six-song Christmas EP. It will be released Dec. 2 and is available for pre-order on iTunes. Covers include “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Jamie Rae Hulick.
* Gianna Salvato: Talk about beating the holiday rush — Gianna from Season 7 released “The True Meaning of Christmas” way back in August. It’s the second post-Voice single from the New York City singer-songwriter following her 2015 release “Baby, It’s You.” More recently, she’s posted a “Santa Baby” cover on SoundCloud.
* Jordan Pruitt: The former Disney star has a single called “Merry Christmas Baby” coming out Dec. 1. She told JustJared that she wrote it about a dear friend who died this year. Since appearing on Season 3 of The Voice, Jordan has gotten married to another member of The Voice family, Brian Fuente from Season 2.
* Kat Perkins: The Top 5 finisher from Season 6 is back with her second Christmas EP, aptly titled “A Kat Perkins Christmas, Vol. 2.” Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, it features six tracks and four new songs — “Joy, Joy, Joy,” “Christmas Stockings,” “Minneapolis / St. Paul” and “A Dakota Christmas.” Kat’s been busy post-Voice, also releasing two non-holiday EPs and a single. She also has a series of Home for the Holidays shows planned.
* Lyndsey Elm: The Season 9 contestant released a cover of “This Christmas” earlier this month. Her version also is featured in a video for Alaska Airlines promoting travel to Disneyland. Holiday singles are becoming a tradition for Lyndsey. Last year, she put out a very nice acoustic cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Lyndsey also released her debut EP, “Onward,” produced by fellow Voice contestant Tim Atlas, earlier this year.
* Riley Biederer: A Top 20 finisher on Season 9 of The Voice, Riley just released a cover of Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me,” writing “I loooove this song and I’ve been wanting to cover it for so long!” And you can watch her cover it on her YouTube channel. Riley released her debut EP, “To Me and You” earlier this year.
All of those are available on iTunes or are available for pre-order on iTunes.
