Danielle Bradbery sang “Worth It,” the second single from her new album, “I Don’t Believe We’ve Met,”
released Friday.
And here’s why I’m so critical of The Voice for not giving more past contestants an opportunity to do what Danielle did Tuesday.
At 1 p.m. Tuesday, I checked iTunes to see where “Worth It” stood on the charts.
The answer?
It was number 37 on the country singles charts. It was number 178 on the overall singles charts.
And where was the song at midnight, about three hours after Danielle’s performance aired?
Try number six on the country singles chart. And number 44 on the overall singles chart — a 134-spot leap.
Why, oh why, won’t The Voice do that for past contestants on a regular basis?
I truly don’t understand.
Why don’t they turn every Tuesday night during the live broadcasts in a rapid-fire, mini-concert featuring past stars from the show?
I mean, the show introduced us to those artists. Shouldn’t Carson Daly and company show some pride in what they accomplish after the show?
Especially after the coaches profess to care so much about their team members episode after episode after episode?
It certainly isn’t because there isn’t great new music to showcase. Past artists have released more than 70 albums or EPs this year. They released scores of singles.
And, unlike Danielle, who is still under contract with a record label, most of the other past contestants are releasing music as independent artists. They’re struggling to get their music heard.
That means they’d have even more to gain from appearing on the show.
And, in return, wouldn’t it make The Voice a more attractive landing spot for singing show contestants?
Especially at a time when the competition for singing show contestants is heating up?
While we ponder the possibility, here is Danielle’s performance from tonight, followed by a photo gallery from that performance.
