Carvena Jones from Jackson, Mississippi, describes herself as a soulful singer.

“Everything is from the heart and heartfelt,” she says in a video clip promoting FOX’s “The Four.” “So like a Picaoso or Michelangelo, I definitely put everything into my art.”

Carvena told the Jackson Free Press that she comes from a family of singers, but didn’t think about pursuing music when she was young because she was so shy.

Then, at age 12, she had a dream about performing on a big stage. At 13, she entered her first talent show. And won.

And a dream of becoming a performer was born.

At that point, she told the newspaper, “I picked up the guitar and just started to evolve, I guess, as an artist, as a singer, knowing who I am, writing my own music.”

As for who she would compare herself to stylistically …

“Let’s just say Whitney Houston and Prince had a baby,” she said. “I would be their child. And Tina Turner would be my grandma.”

Carvena will be one of the original four when “The Four” returns for its second season on FOX Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Released music: She released a three-track EP called “Cuckoo” in 2015. You can check out the music video for the title track below. She’s been a featured vocalist on at least three Christian-gospel releases since then.
