After all, this is the young lady who launched a fitness website and a motivational problem called “S.T.R.O.N.G.”
And now we have a new album called “Strong,” released less than a month after Season 14 of The Voice ended.
JessLee was a Team Blake Shelton contestant on Season 14, and said she knew she wanted to deliver music to fans as soon as possible after the show ended.
“Lucky me, I had already written and recorded a bunch of music and filmed my new music video before the show had ever even reached out to me,” she told Voice Views.
“As soon as I decided I would try out, I put them on hold knowing I would come back to that project after whatever happened with the show.”
The album features seven tracks; the music video — which you can check out below — is for a song called “My Favorite Song.”
And, yep, being a member of Team Blake Shelton, there’s certainly a touch of country in JessLee’s music. But this country comes with a wicked kick.
“The music I am writing today is much more edgy,” she says, comparing “Strong” to her previous releases, including a 2015 EP and a pair of singles last year.
“It’s a sound I’ve coined ‘Punktry,’ which is basically country music with a punk rock twist. I think I always saw my music eventually going in this directions since I’ve always been so influenced by rock and punk music, along with country, for the majority of my life.
“I’m basically a metal head who likes to slap fiddle and pedal steel on my tracks.”
JessLee hails from Stuart, Fla., and was 26 when she auditioned for The Voice. She wrote all seven songs on the new album, with an assist from Clay Mills and Westin Davis on the fine “What You Don’t Know.”
And while you’ll want to check out the rock in JessLee’s country, don’t miss her album closing “I’m So In Like With You.” It’s an acoustic track, putting her vocals front and center.
As for the album’s title?
“Strong” is also the lead track on the new album, which dropped earlier this month.
“This song is extremely special to me because I wrote it as the theme song for my S.T.R.O.N.G. program, which is a program where I do motivational speaking mixed with a live concerts to speak to youth about chasing their dreams by being mentally, physically and spiritually diligent.
“The song’s emotions stemmed from my own struggles that I overcame in my youth, which was dealing with abuse from my father. I tell students that no matter where they come from, they are the creator of their reality, and they don’t ever have to stay there.”
JessLee has lots of shows scheduled through the end of the year and says more show dates are coming. You can check them out on her website and Facebook page. Next week, she headlines the July 4 celebration in Vero Beach, Fla. You can also follow her on Twitter at @Jessleecountry.
