Being the youngest contestant on The Voice can be intimidating, Kennedy Holmes admits.

But you wouldn’t know it by watching the 13-year-old perform on the show.

And it certainly hasn’t affected the outcome.

The teenager from the St. Louis area was one of just four singers on The Voice to turn four chairs during the blind audition.

And after winning her knockout round match with a performance of Pink’s “What About Us,” she’s one of six Team Jennifer Hudson members heading to the live playoffs Monday night.

“Being on the show with a lot of adults who have been working on their craft longer than I’ve been alive, and who are very polished, can be intimidating sometimes,” Kennedy told Voice Views. “It just means that I have to work 10 times harder than everybody else, but I’m okay with that.

“Sometimes, I also have an advantage when it comes to being the youngest in the competition because people are always amazed at how I’m only 13, but sound like an adult.”

As for her stage presence, she credits her experience at the St. Louis Municipal Theater, where she’s been performing since 2015.

“It’s an outdoor theater that seats 11,000 people, and I have to perform in front of them all,” Kennedy said. “If it wasn’t for my experience at the MUNY, my stage presence wouldn’t be as strong as it is today.”

Kennedy told Voice Views she thought about singing “What About Us” for her blind audition. She went with Adele’s “Turning Tables” instead; then came back to the Pink hit for her knockout round match with fellow teen Anthony Arya.

“As a 13-year-old, it’s hard to sing songs that are about love, because I haven’t experienced that yet,” she explained. “So I was looking for a song with a great meaning and one that would fit my age. So ‘What About Us’ was the perfect song.”

If she makes it far enough in the competition, Kennedy added that she’d like to “do an upbeat song that would allow me to dance and show my versatility.”

The live playoffs air Monday night on The Voice, with the Top 6 from each team performing.

Results will be announced Tuesday with three singers from each six-member team advancing to the Top 13. Two will move forward based on fan voting; then each coach gets to save a third singer from his or her team.
