It came in the form of a single called “Stranger,” and he took to Instagram to explain the genesis for the song.
“My grandfather and I spent an evening last year watching Blade Runner 2049. There’s a scene about halfway through the movie where Rick Deckard says ‘sometimes to love someone, you gotta be a stranger.’
“I found this line to be beautifully simple and jarringly relevant. For myself, I think it’s time to be a bit of a stranger to the constant reflection on a period of heartbreak.
“I believe I’ve said just about all I can about that. I look forward to finding joy and energy in the pursuit of new muses.”
Taylor John also has been pursuing new musical endeavors, performing with Amelia Hammer Harris — who you might remember from Season 16 of American Idol — as the duo Jack and the Bones.
And Taylor John returned to his hometown of Portland, Oregon, last month where he played a sold-out holiday show.
Though we never met him on the show, Taylor John was also a contestant on Idol Season 16.
Now 27, he auditioned for Season 7 of The Voice in 2014 and advanced all the way to the Top 5.
Here’s “Stranger.”
