Ryan Hammond auditioned for American Idol Season 17.

On his Instagram page, Ryan Hammond predicts 2019 will be the year “that changes everything.”

Accompanying that comment is a montage of photos, including one of him posing beside the American Idol emblem.

A worship leader from California, Ryan is one of the artists who has announced he auditioned for Season 17.

Here’s more about Ryan.

* Ryan describes his sound in a YouTube interview: “I’m really edgy, really soulful. I like the soulful stuff. I don’t like to be boring. That’s why I love Sam Smith, Adele, all of those people because you feel it when they sing.”

* His parents are pastors; his dad has been a worship leader for years. So Ryan grew up singing in church. “We’ve always had a grand piano in the living room, so sitting around the piano singing, that’s how our family is.”

* In 2015, Ryan won both the Northern California Idol competition and the Valley’s Got Talent contest.

* He is now worship leader at Soul Harvest Worship Center in Modesto, Calif.

* Turns out 2018 was a year of change for Ryan as well. About two years ago, he was approved for a gastric bypass procedure. Since then, he says he’s lost 170 pounds.

* Last year, Ryan released “Tragedy to Triumph,” a six-song Christian EP.

* He has since followed that up with a pair of pop singles, “Bombs Away” and “Breaking Me Down,” both of which came out earlier this year. You can check out the former below.

* Ryan says he’s often told he sounds like Sam Smith or James Arthur. “Which I think is super cool,” he adds of Arthur, “because he’s got this cool grit to his voice.”
