Here’s a look at Team John Legend entering Monday’s live playoffs on The Voice.
Two singers advance this week based on fan voting. A third will be saved by John.
Then the remaining highest vote-getter will have a chance to compete for the 13th spot in the Season 17 finals.
Katie Kadan: The 38-year-old from of Chicago, Ill., was the very first artist we met on Season 17, performing “Baby, I Love You” and turning four chairs. She won her battle round match with Destiny Rayne; they performed “Tiny Dancer.” She own her knockout match with Max Boyle with a performance of “Piece of My Heart.”
Alex Guthrie: The 25-year-old from Marietta, Ga., performed “Love and Happiness” by Al Green and turned two chairs in the blinds. He won his battle round match with Injoy Fountain; they performed “Home.” He lost his Team Kelly knockout round match to Hello Sunday, but was stolen by John Legend.
Marybeth Byrd: The 18-year-old from Armorel, Ark., turned four chairs in the blinds, performing “Angel from Montgomery” by Bonnie Raitt. She won her battle round match with Dane and Stephanie; they performed “Burning House.” In the knockouts, she performed “All I Ask” to advance over fellow four-chair-turn recipient Preston Howell.
Khalea Lynee: The 36-year-old from Clearwater, Fla., performed “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar, turning four chairs. She won her battle round match with Zoe Upkins; they sang “The Boy Is Mine.” In the knockouts, she performed “Because You Loved Me” to triumph over James Violet.
Will Breman: The 25-year-old from Santa Barbara, Calif., sang “Say You’ll Be There,” turning two chairs in the blinds. He won a battle with Jared Herzog; they performed “Treat You Better.” In the knockouts, he sang “I Don’t Care” to advance over Zoe Upkins.
Prediction: Team Legend was absolutely loaded with four-chair-turn talent following the blinds. Now, three remain. They include Marybeth Byrd, who’s been referred to as a potential finalist; Khalea Lynee, who’s been excellent all three rounds; and Katie Kadan, who’s big voice and flamboyant style make her a show favorite. They’re my picks to advance. But that would leave an all-female Team Legend, so don’t count out Will or Alex, both of whom did very well in the knockouts.
