A ‘very personal’ new single from Holly Henry

Holly Henry has a new single out called Hide and Seek.

A couple of weeks back, we heard music from the three Season 5 finalists on The Voice.

They’re not the only artists from that season with new music.

Holly Henry also released a new single earlier this month, with a bit of help.

The single is called “Hide and Seek,” hit iTunes May 6 and it’s a very personal tune, Holly says.

“Hide and Seek was written about my own personal experience with anxiety and agoraphobia,” she says. “It’s not something I really like to talk about because I feel like a lot of people are not too keen to know. But it’s something that I deeply struggle with. And I feel like I can’t really keep that out of my music.”

song is haunting in tone, reminiscent of her blind audition of “The Scientist” that turned four chairs on The Voice last fall.

Holly was considered an early-season front-runner on the show, but lost in the battle round to fellow Team Blake member Nic Hawk.

She released the new single with the help of an organization called Grow Music Project, based in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The organization, founded by Christopher Tyng, helps emerging artists record a song  in a professional studio setting for free, without giving away any of the rights to the material.

The goal is to release one track per month.

have sessions here that are insane explosions of energy,” Tyng said. “Then there’s our experience with Holly. Everyone in the room was completely enthralled in an overwhelmingly quiet manner when she sung the first take.”

Holly, 20, describes herself as “acoustic/folk/alternative/blonde girl with a weird voice that plays instruments moderately well” on Facebook.

And she’s been pretty busy since The Voice.

In addition to the new single, she released a five-track EP called “The Immigrant” in December.

At right, you can hear the new single, followed by a video of Holly talking about the experience of recording it.
