Jamal Roberts performed Rick James’ “Mary Jane” for his American Idol audition.
And at the end of a two-minute performance, Luke Bryan recognized why the 26-year-old appeals so much to fans.
“You’re just singing it from the heart, and that’s what I felt,” Luke said before the judges voted unanimously to advance Jamal to Hollywood.
Carrie Underwood did suggest that Jamal find “some swagger” and “loosen up.”
He seems to have done both along his Idol journey. And Sunday night, he’ll be performing in the American Idol finale.
