Jennifer Hudson will receive a special honor tonight at the People’s Choice Awards.

She’s been selected as Favorite Humanitarian, the show has announced.

The honor comes as a result of Jennifer’s work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, an organization she formed in 2009 with her sister, Julia.

The organization keeps alive the memory of Jennifer’s nephew Julian, who was murdered at age 6 in 2008. Jennifer’s mother and brother also died in the incident. Julia was Julian’s mom.

The foundation works to provide stability and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds.

One of its activities, Hatch Day in Chicago, provides free school supplies to thousands of needy youngsters every August.

Jennifer was honored for the same cause at the Do Something Awards on VH1 last summer.

And she’s supposed to be on hand tonight to receive the honor at the awards show, set to start at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Other than watching Jennifer receive her award, there aren’t likely to be lots of singing show highlights tonight.

The Voice and The X Factor are both up for honors as Favorite Competition TV Show, along with America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars and MasterChef.

The X Factor won last year (enter “gasp!” here), which certainly says something about how much stock one should put in these awards.

I mean, if X Factor was anyone’s favorite last year, wouldn’t more people have been tuning in to watch?

American Idol, not nominated this year, took the honor every year from 2010-2012.

In the favorite country artist category, Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton are nominated along with The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift.
