American Idol has decided to roll its final performance show and its season finale into one three-hour episode Sunday night.

And they’ve announced so many special performances, I hope they’re saving time for the Top 3 to make their final statement.

In past seasons, every member of the Top 3 has taken the stage three times to show why they deserve to be the American Idol.

We might need that many performances from this Top 3 to figure that out.

As for the already announced performances, Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood will both be returning for Sunday’s show.

Carrie appears to be performing solo. Adam will be doing a duet with Dimitrius Graham.

Here are the other performances Idol has announced in its promo clip.

* Judge Lionel Richie will perform a group number with this season’s Top 10

* Judge Luke Bryan will duet with Laci Kaye Booth

* Judge Katy Perry will duet with Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon

* We’re promised a special performance by Alejandro Aranda. Not sure what that means, but if it’s an extra solo performance, it better fall after voting ends. Otherwise … well, that’s cheating.

* County singer Jon Pardi will duet with Laine Hardy.

* Dan + Shay will perform with Madison VanDenburg, which is a pairing I don’t quite understand.

* Country star Kane Brown will duet with Alyssa Raghu in another head-scratcher. For as few country songs as contestants performed from Top 14 on, this sure is a country-heavy guest lineup.

* In what promises to be the night’s most over-the-top performances, Kool and the Gang will join perform with Uche.

* The rock band Weezer will perform with Wade Cota and Walker Burroughs

* Top 40 contestant Shayy, who is legally blind, will performs with a surprise Grammy nominated singer.

Remember, this will mark the first time Idol has not had a separate season finale.

And the promo clip announcing these performances doesn’t mention Season 16 champ Maddie Poppe, who was apparently — and with good reason — hoping for a late-season performance spot to help promote her new album which lands Friday.
