Those of you impatiently awaiting the first Idol releases of 2012 might want to check out the final Idol release of 2011.

It’s an eight-track EP, “I Am Who I Am,” from David Hernandez that came out Dec. 27.

The material is a bit hit and miss.  But those who barely remember the 12th-place finisher from Idol Season 7 are going to be surprised at the vocal talent David demonstrates.

According to his Facebook page, David wrote all but one of the eight songs. The title track — about growing up in a single-parent household and overcoming adversity — pre-dates his days on Idol.

“I think there is a song on this EP for everyone, no matter what you have been through, or what you are going through. I try to write about things that I know people can relate to. I think love is a common thread we all share, so there is definitely some of that on this record,” David says on his Facebook page.

He’d been working on the EP since 2009, and it’s his most comprehensive release to date.  He previously released covers of “Halo” and “The Climb” on iTunes, as well as a single called “You Name” and a five-track Christmas EP.

David’s also kept busy since Idol, touring with shows such as Ballroom with a Twist and American Stars in Concert.  And, in April, he’s supposed to be in York as part of an American Stars Celebrate Motown show at the Strand-Capitol. The show will also feature former Idol finalists Gina Glocksen, LaKisha Jones and Michael Sarver. Go here for ticket information.

As for the EP, the best tracks are “Follow,” “Deliver Me” and “She’s Coming Undone.”  You can check out two of those below.
