Angela Martin, Season 9

Angela Martin: Idol isn’t her future; a Kara-penned song is

Angela MartinAngela Martin might not get a shot at becoming the season nine American Idol.

But it sounds as though she’ll wind up in a recording studio at some point.

Everyone who watches Idol likely knows Angela’s story by now.

She advanced to Hollywood for the third straight season this year.

But she didn’t make the semifinals.

And, at age 28, she’s ineligible to audition in the future unless Idol changes its age limits.

The first year she auditioned, her father was killed shortly before the Hollywood round; his funeral was a week before.

Last year, she had to leave the competition and spend six days in jail because she couldn’t afford to pay her traffic tickets.

A dancer and actress as well as a singer, Angela also has a daughter with Rett syndrome.

And her mother is missing, though Angela is convinced she’s still alive.

On Friday’s show, Ellen gave Angela a chance to sing Alicia Keys’ “Super Woman” in what was a pretty Idol worthy performance.

Then she told Angela about her surprise.

Ellen and Kara DioGuardi decided they had to do something for Angela.

So Kara is going to write Angela a song, Ellen said.

“You’re going into a studio. She is going to produce a song for you. We’re going to get you a record label.”

Nice gesture, ladies.
