When it comes to productivity, lots of former Idol contestants could learn a lesson from Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta.
David is releasing more new music while on a two-year mission with his church than you’re likely to get from any other past Idol still in the U.S.
Next up: The March 26 release of an album called “No Matter How Far.”
The album will feature a mix of new recorded material and previously unreleased tracks, according to a press release issued today by Entertainment One.
The first single is the title track; it will be released to adult contemporary radio sometime in February, the release says.
David is in South America, serving a two-year mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He left last spring.
That was just after the release of his Filipino album, “Forevermore.”
And just before departing, he recorded a host of cover songs that made up an album called “Begin.” It was released in June and included one excellent original, “Broken,” which made my list of 10 best Idol songs of 2012.

Thanks for mentioning Forevermore and BEGIN too – I love both – and for including the nice cover art for the new album. I’m excited!! David worked really hard before his church mission to record and plan so his fans would get some music while he’s away. And his management and business friends have worked hard to make it happen in his absence. Amazing guy. I love being his fan even while we wait 2 years for his return. #DA2014
BTW if anyone’s on twitter, David’s id is DavidArchie there. His manager Kari does the tweeting while David’s away on his mission and occasionally she includes a message from David.

This young man is truly an IDOL. What he has accomplished is his short life is just amazing. He is so respectful and appreciative of his fans and treats us so amazingly well. I am so excited!!! I can’t believe David Archuleta has been so generous to us fans with yet another album! We are truly blessed by this amazing artist who even before he went away on his mission put together a plan to put out albums that really mean something to his fans while we wait for his return. David obviously has surrounded himself with a great group of supporters…and I am feeling so lucky to be a part of his fandom. This is great. You know it really says something about an artist who is so productive and thoughtful to his fans. He is honest and true to his convictions. And he is ever so talented. This is one 22 year old who really deserves it all! Very interesting guy. Clean as a whistle yet sizzles. Pretty rare!
I am so proud to be a David Archuleta fan for almost 5 years. I took one listen to his Idol “Heaven” audition and knew right then & there I was witnessing greatness! He’s a GEM just like Paula said! I’m forever grateful to him for all the music he’s shared with us, all recorded BEFORE he left for his Mission. He didn’t have to do that but that’s just David and that explains why he has a strong/dedicated fanbase that will be waiting for his return to a continued stellar career. #DA2014
I’ve run out of words to describe how wonderful David is. David can release this much music because his vocals are perfect, doesn’t require auto tune and numerous retakes. Throw in gorgeous and passionate and well, yeah, fan for life!!!
