When last we left The X Factor, we had learned the identity of 10 of the 16 singers advancing to the live shows.
Then the rain stopped in St. Louis, the Cardinals resumed their game with the Giants and The X Factor disappeared from our TV screens.
Which brings us to tonight, when The X Factor has condensed last week’s two-hour episode into one and finally plans to reveal the rest of the Top 16.
When the show ended, the following contestants had already made the live shows:
Among the teens: Diamond White, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Arin Ray and Beatrice Miller.
Among the Over 25s: David Correy, Jason Brock, Tate Stevens and Vino Alan
Among the young adults: Jennel Garcia and Willie Jones. Viewers in the U.S. hadn’t yet learned the fate of CeCe Frey, Paige Thomas or Jillian Jensen, though Canadian viewers did.
Canadian viewers also learned the identity of two groups that advanced and one that was eliminated.
Hmm, actually, they didn’t edit down anything. They’re going to just show the last half of last week’s interrupted show.
Beginning with the young adults. Well, we already saw Jennel and Willie advance and Nick get sent home, so we’ll pick up the live blog after that.
Paige Thomas: With Nick heading home, two spots and three contestants remain. Single mom Paige should get one of those spots. After making her cry, Demi breaks the news that Paige is advancing.
Jillian Jensen: The gal who overcame bullying has a wonderful back-story, but I also thought she was the least impressive of the young adults in her judges’ mansion performance. And Jillian is going home.
CeCe Frey: Her attitude has been criticized, but there’s no doubting her vocals. Her judges’ mansion performance was clearly the best of the bunch. And CeCe is advancing in the competition. Wise decision.
The Groups
Lyric145 The combination of Lyric Da Queen and One4Five into Lyric145 worked wonderfully. They turned in the best performance among the groups at Simon’s mansion. And they advance.
Dope Crisis: Well, here’s a clue: Most of their judge’s mansion performance wound up on the cutting-room floor, never a good sign. And it wasn’t. They’re going home.
Emblem 3: Contrary to what they might think, Emblem 3 has never been epic. They’ve always been over-rated. They were awful at the judge’s mansion. And they deserve to exit the competition. Unfortunately, they advance.
Sister C: Honestly, since Emblem 3 foolishly survived, I fear Sister C might be on the chopping block. I didn’t think they were quite as much fun as the other two remaining groups. But they advance. Sorta glad to see it.
Playback: The group made up of Austin Corini, Brandan Hassan, Johnny Maxwell, Josh Metzler and Owen Stuart did OK at the judge’s mansion, but deserve to go home among the two remaining groups. And they go home.
Lylas: I thought the group made up of Dinah Jane, Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello and Normani Kordei turned in the second best performance during group’s day at the judges’ mansion. And they advance. Excellent choice.
Just one last note, that ending was a nod to Simon’s massive ego, apparently, and a stupid way to end the judges’ mansion show.
I’m sure viewers felt a lot stronger about individual artists than two manufactured groups the show just created, so why not end with the CeCe-Jillian cliffhanger, for instance.
Anyway, that’s it for The X Factor until a two-and-a-half-hour episode on Nov. 1.
