In a promo clip for the battle rounds, you’ll hear Adam Levine talking about how he has his best team ever on The Voice. In this case, it isn’t just hyperbole spewed forth to fit the show’s “can anyone beat Blake” storyline.
His audition: Brian Pounds, 24, of Austin, Texas, sang Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel.” The performance prompted chair turns from Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, the only coaches with vacancies on their team at that point. Blake complimented him on a “great sound” and a “great clear voice.”
His audition: Matt Cermanski, 20, of Phoenixville, Pa., auditioned with John Hiatt’s “Have a Little Faith in Me.” Adam Levine turned his chair within the first few notes and was followed by Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green. Blake complimented Matt for his versatility, saying he performed the song “like a cat playing with a…
His audition: Brandon Chase, 20, of Arlington, Texas, performed Hunter Hayes’ “Wanted.” Blake Shelton spun his chair early in the performance, followed by Cee Lo. In terms of country music, Blake said Brandon sounded like “the real deal.”
Her audition: Tamara Chauniece, 23, of Wharton, Texas, sang Beyonce’s “1 + 1.” Her vocals prompted Christina Aguilera to turn around in a heartbeat. Mid-song, she was joined by Cee Lo Green. Cee Lo called the performance “gorgeous,” then added “and so are you.” Christina said Tamara touched her heart.
Her audition: Grey, 25, of Jacksonville, Fla., performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath.” Adam Levine turned around early in her performance. By the time it ended, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green were facing the stage, too. Adam called her “extraordinary”; Christina said she got stronger over the course of the performance.
His audition: Shawn Smith, 32, of Utica, N.Y., sang the Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried.” He was well into the performance, before Cee Lo Green turned his chair. At the time, Cee Lo was the only coach with a spot left on his team. He also impressed Blake Shelton with his willingness to ham it…
His audition: Lupe Carroll, 26, of Bourdonnais, Ill., sang Bobby Darin’s “If I Were a Carpenter” and turned in one of night five’s best vocals. Midway through the song, Cee Lo Green turned his chair. Adam Levine, though he didn’t turn his chair, complimented Lupe for having “a compelling voice.” Background: Lupe’s day job is…
