This is the time of year when we’re normally gearing up for the American Idol season finale.

Instead, we already have a Season 15 winner in Trent Harmon. In fact, we already have a post-Idol single from a Season 15 finalist.

Avalon Young beat everyone else to the punch this week when she released an R&B tune called “What’s Real.”

The song actually hit lots of music sites May 1, but wasn’t available on iTunes until yesterday (May 5).

The song quickly hit number 124 on the iTunes R&B singles chart, and Avalon later tweeted that it had climbed as high as number 72.

And it won’t be the last new music we get from Avalon. Two days before the release of the single, she tweeted: “Just got back from the studio and i’m so tired. But i finished another song for the album & i cant wait 2 give u guys this music.”

Avalon — named after a 1982 hit for Roxy Music — was 21 when she auditioned for American Idol. She wound up finishing in the Top 8; she was eliminated the same night as Lee Jean.

Pre-Idol, she released a pair of EPs — “Drowning in You” (2013) and “Redline” (2015). The later includes a collaboration with another former American Idol finalist, Andrew Garcia. You can check it out on Avalon’s Soundcloud page.

You can follow Avalon through her Facebook page and on Twitter, where she’s simply @avalonyoung.
