Hooray! At last. She’s gone. Bikini Girl that is.
American Idol sent her packing last night. And not a moment too soon.
I mean, folks, we were on the verge of something very scary. Had Bikini Girl (aka Katrina Darrell) made it to the semi-finals, who knows what would have happened?
Well, actually, I was talking it over with fellow blogger Andy Shaw Wednesday afternoon, and we think we know. (Make sure to check out Andy’s take on “Rock of Love Bus.” The show really is cringe worthy.)
Anyway, back to Katrina. Had she made it to the semifinals, she would have continued to mug for the camera. And, hey, she’s not bad looking, so some guys would have voted for her just to keep her around.
And VoteForTheWorst.com would have undoubtedly adopted her as its poster child, ensuring many, many more votes.
Heck, it’s not tough to imagine Katrina flouncing and flirting her way all the way into the final 12. Yikes. Yikes. Yikes.
So Idol did itself a favor by giving her the boot.
And I won’t spend long feeling too sorry for Bikini Girl, even though the mood on her MySpace page last night was “bummed” and she complains in a blog about how the Idol episode was edited.
I mean, now that her Idol run is over, she’s likely to be deluged by offers from everyone from Girls Gone Wild to Playboy. Or if she decides to stay minimally clothed, she’ll probably have her pick of low-budget B movies to appear in.
Heck, someone just might give her a record contract. Stranger things (remember William Hung) have happened.
Who knows how long she’ll be able to extend her 15 minutes of fame. Other Idol contestants have managed to extends their’s with far less exposure.
Hmm, maybe exposure’s the wrong word. Katrina couldn’t have had much more exposure and still have been allowed on network TV.
And remember my prediction from yesterday about Katrina and this year’s Idol finale.
Sorry this blog about Hollywood night two is all about Katrina. She doesn’t deserve that much attention. But the news that she got the boot is all I know about last night’s episode, and that comes courtesy of Andy.
I spent last night watching Jewel at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster. She was amazing, as always. Hearing her sing one new song (“Hole in My Heart,” check it out below) was worth the price of admission.
And thanks to Jewel, I discovered more former Idols are headed our way. The video board at the theater announced that the American Idol Pop Tour will stop in Lancaster on Wednesday, March 25. Tickets are $40. The show will feature Diana DeGarmo, Melinda Doolittle, Phil Stacy and Chickeze. And, according to the theater’s Web site, more Idols might be added.
As for last night’s show, I’ll watch it this evening and report back tomorrow if there’s anything worth spouting off about. Hey, that’s what DVRs are for.
Also upcoming, a Grammy preview, a list of Idols performing in the area (there are a surprising number), and a list of upcoming Idol CD releases (there are a lot, and that isn’t surprising because the show is back on, and when else would a former Idol release a CD?).
Somehow, some day, we’re going to figure out a way to keep the latter two lists on this blog in the space to your right. In the meantime, I’ll post it every Saturday.
And, now, new music from Jewel. It’s the best audio of this song I could find.
