The reason: Brynn was the youngest singer ever to win The Voice. She’s still just 15.
And the song’s lyrics, presented first-person style, suggests it’s about a young woman who’s just had a one-night stand she 1) doesn’t entirely remember; 2) regrets.
One line: “I swear I use to be innocent.”
Another: “Woke up in someone else’s bed.”
Wearing “Last Night’s Mascara,” the song’s title.
You might say that raised some social media eyebrows.
Wrote Brynn on Twitter Wednesday morning: “I did write the song about a girl I saw at a party…. It’s not about my actions. Its called writing in character. My music tells stories and I’m dang proud of it. Hope this cleared up your confusion. 😊”
The good news: The buzz from that one performance was enough to get the ridiculously addictive song onto the iTunes charts.
Friday at noon, two and a half days after the performance aired, the song was still at 51 on the site’s overall singles chart and number 10 on the iTunes pop singles chart.
And for that reaction, Brynn took to Twitter again, proclaiming “and I am (number) 1 on the most thankful charts.”
