Caleb Lee Hutchinson released his first two songs since American Idol over the weekend.

In the lead-up to the release of his two new songs, Caleb Lee Hutchinson predicted one would surprise his fans.

That would not be “Left of Me,” a catchy single Caleb wrote which immediately landed on the iTunes country singles chart.

It marks Caleb’s first single since finishing second on Season 16 of American Idol.

The surprise would be his cover of rapper Post Malone’s “Better Now,” countrified with a Caleb touch.

“Shoutout to @kristianbush for being the greatest producer on earth and encouraging me to do something different! That man is just as kind as he is talented!” Caleb wrote on Twitter.

And shout out to Caleb for his sense of humor. The “Better Now” cover features a very young Caleb with lots of face tattoos.

He even introduced the two new songs with a funny ditty on Instagram.

Caleb has some tour dates set up for next month, including a free show Feb. 13 at the Tin Roof in Baltimore.

And for those wondering, yep, Caleb and Season 16 champ Maddie Poppe are still an item. Back in mid-December, Caleb posted photos of them vacationing together in Hawaii.

Here’s Caleb’s acoustic version of “Left of Me.”
