Mandi Castillo and CammWess delivered one of the best received battle round matches of Season 18 of The Voice.

They performed “Senorita,” the song made famous by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

And while coach John Legend declared Mandi the winner, Camm was also immediately save from the threat of elimination, courtesy of a steal by Kelly Clarkson.

Here’s what Camm, 22, of Blythewood, S.C., told Voice Views about his battle round experience.

Voice Views: What do you think was the key to the success of that battle round performance?

Camm: I think the key to success was to approach the battle more like a duet. I think if we, as a duo, try to give the best performance possible we cannot lose!

Voice Views: How did the song choice work for you? Did it pose any special challenges?

Camm: The song choice was definitely out of my wheelhouse, but I love a challenge! I had to take on a song that has more of a pop feel to it than I am used to, but I believe a true artist has to be flexible in their abilities!

Voice Views: Both you and Mandi got amazing feedback from the coaches? Once she advanced, how were you feeling about your odds of being saved/stolen and did you anticipate that a steal could possibly come from Kelly?

Camm: Once the battle was over and John chose Mandi, I was genuinely happy for her and felt gratitude for my time on the show! Before I started to walk off the stage, I made peace with the fact that I was headed back to South Carolina. I was not at all expecting to get a save from Kelly! That surprised look on my face was 100% real!

Voice Views: Anything else you’d like to add about the battle round experience?

Camm: I think the battle round, as a whole, was one huge learning experience. I think it helps you to work on your skills as a duet partner and it gives you an opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone!

Voice Views: And, obviously, you can’t talk about song choice, but is there a side of your artistry you haven’t gotten to display yet that you hope to in coming rounds?

Camm: In the coming rounds I would love to get an opportunity to play an instrument! I play guitar and piano at most every gig, so I would love to get an opportunity to show what people could expect to see at a CammWess concert!
