Idols on the Music Chart

Carrie’s ‘Good Girl’ roars up the chart

Less than two full weeks after its release, Carrie Underwood’s new single has already cracked the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the country singles chart.

“Good Girl” is number 18 on the Hot 100 this week, up from 24 a week ago.

The song is number 19 on the country singles chart, up from 30 a week ago.

And it’s likely to get another boost Monday, when the official video for the song is released.  That’s the teaser I’ve embedded above.

In the past week, we’ve also learned that Carrie’s new album, due out May 1, will be called “Blown Away.”

All this comes as sort of a birthday celebration for Carrie.  The fairest Idol of them all turned 29 on Saturday.

In other chart news this week:

* Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” has been number one on the Hot 100 a combined three weeks but gets bumped out of the top spot this week by “We Are Young” by Fun. But “Stronger” hit number one among adult pop tunes, making four different charts her latest single has topped.  Two more are in Kelly’s sight.  “Stronger” has moved to number two on the radio and pop songs charts, in both cases trailing only Adele’s “Set Fire To the Rain.”

* Kellie Pickler’s “100 Proof” debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, but it was a swift decline after that.  This week, the album dropped off the chart after just five weeks.  Kellie’s still number 33 on the country albums chart, but that puts her behind Lauren Alaina’s “Wildflower” and Scotty McCreery’s “Clear as Day,” both released in October.
