Talk about forgotten Idol contestants. Remember Camile Velasco? A hint: Season three. Dark-haired Hawaiian beauty.
Well, Camile will receive the Single of the Year Award at the 12th annual Hawaii Music Awards on April 4.
And she’s working on her first album with Up Above Records. So says a press release issued about the awards ceremony.
As for the single … well, talk about an interesting story.
The song she released is a version of Bob Marley’s classic, “Guava Jelly.” The producer on the song: Marley’s son, Stephen. And the song was recorded in Bob Marley’s original home recording studio.
The album from Camile is coming our way sometime in 2009, judging from the TV interview that follows.
And Camile will be performing in D.C. Tuesday and Wednesday as part of a Spirit of Aloha Tour sponsored by Marriott’s Resorts Hawaii.
Here’s the much better studio version

Kellie Pickler is preparing to film the video for her new single, “Best Days of Your Life,” the second release from her self-titled sophomore album.
She was ranting about an ex-boyfriend to Taylor Swift when the two composed the tune in what Kellie describes as a therapeutic songwriting session. “This song is about one particular guy, but I’m dedicating the music video to all you bad boys out there.”
She promises the video will be fun. What else would we expect from Kellie?
Still no word on that June 11 Baltimore date on this summer’s Taylor Swift/Kellie Pickler tour. But I keep checking.

Sounds like Bucky Covington is enjoying his USO Tour. In a Friday blog, he talked about shooting guns in a situation simulator “which was very cool” and visiting with a bomb squad and learning about the explosives they find, about one every other day, some dating back to World War I.
Bucky’s taking a break from recording his second album to visit five U.S. bases in Europe. The journey started at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo. Here’s a link to Bucky’s blogs for those who’d like to learn more about his trip. He’s posting photos on a regular basis.

David Archuleta has launched some sort of Internet game called “David Archuleta Arch Madness.” Apparently, you search the Internet for codes that you need to enter on your computer screen to advance along the game board.
According to the game rules, when your character winds up on “a landmark square,” you get to watch a video and download “cool David prizes.”
And when you reach the final square, you’re entered to win a grand prize — a laptop computer and a digital camera. “But not just any digital camera. This is the camera that David brought with him on tour and used himself. The camer has a bunch of photos that David took, and that only you will get to see!”
Oh, gee. No thanks. But I’m sure there are some David fans out there who might be interested, so here’s the link.
Meanwhile, don’t forget, David will be in Lancaster this weekend. (Concert details at right)
