My, my, what happened to Anoop Desai?

Last year, Anoop released a post-American Idol debut CD with the title  “All Is Fair.”  Well, that title turned turned out to be inadvertently appropriate.

There was nothing wrong with the vocals on the eight tracks. But the only one of those tunes that had any pop was the lead single, “My Name.”

Now Anoop is back with “Zero.0,” released last week. This time, he’s accompanied by eight new songs and arrangements that sound truly ready for prime time.

I’ll sure he’ll have the ladies swooning with “You Should Be Loved.” He should have everyone smiling over “Oowee,” which is as much fun as it sounds.

And heads should be bobbing and toes should be tapping to “Worth the Wait,” the catchiest song on the disc, and one so good I’ll even forgive the lyrics — “other girls taste like OJ and toothpaste/but you you taste like birthday cake.” Hey, it’s another fun song.

Anoop had a hand in writing five of the eight new tracks, including “Worth the Wait” and “Oowee.” DJ Trauma is co-executive producer for the project. And Anoop apparently got quite capable production help from the likes of Wonderberg, Sak Pase and Big Shots.

And here’s the best news of all: The new Anoop CD is available as a free download from his website. A hi-fi version will also be available for purchase April 20 with an additional track, “Wait.”

This is just the first of three installments in the Zero project, meaning two more CDs are on the way before the end of the year.

Now someone just needs to have a chat with Anoop about naming these CDs.

“All is Fair?” “Zero?” They don’t exactly conjure up images of high expectations.

“Worth the Wait” would have been appropriate for this one. Or “Oowee,” which pretty much sums up my reaction after listening to it.

Grade: B.

I agree this album is better than his first. I love Anoop’s voice and I’m glad to hear it over bouncier tracks. I think Anoop’s getting his groove on now. I listen to “Zero.0” over abd over. It definitely helps me get through the work day.
