Constantine Maroulis and ‘Rock of Ages’ head to Baltimore

2

Constantine Maroulis has found post-American Idol stardom in Rock of Ages.

Remember Constantine Maroulis, he of the long dark hair, the sultry look and the sixth-place finish back on season four of American Idol.

Well, his own post-Idol album released back in 2007 might have flopped, but Constantine has become a star on Broadway doing just what he did on American Idol, singing other people’s hits.

He’s the lead (playing Drew Bowie) in a little show called “The Rock of Ages,” a celebration of 1980s rock that earned him a 2009 Tony nomination for best actor in a musical. The show was also nominated for best musical.

And, pretty soon, you can see Constantine and the rest of “The Rock of Ages” cast in Baltimore. The play will be staged at the Hippodrome Theatre from Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 as part of a 30-city tour that kicked off late last month in Chicago.

Tickets run between $57 and $79.50 for the weeknight shows and between $69 and $90 for the weekend shows. You can head here if you’re interested in going.

“The Rock of Ages” tour is in Boston right now, where Constantine predicts that Steven Tyler will “blow it up” as a judge on American Idol in this story in the Boston Globe and where he gets a great review in this story in the Boston Herald.

A cast album is also available on Amazon.com, featuring Constantine on songs such as “Sister Christian,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Cum on Feel the Noise,” “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “High Enough,” “Oh, Sherrie” and “I Wanna Rock.”

And here’s a promo clip from the show.

AWESOME! Saw Constantine and Rock of Ages in NYC and cannot wait til he brings the Tour to the west coast for 3 months in February. The show is getting rave reviews on the road.
Not sure you can call an independently produced CD (Constantine)that debuted in the top ten on the Indie chart a ‘flop,’ btw, and some of its best songs are self-penned.
