The Voice has its first York County contestant.

DaNica Shirey was featured on the second audition episode of Season 7 of the hit NBC show Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old Red Lion Area High School grad sang Jessie J’s “Big White Room” and landed a spot on Team Pharrell.

It marked quite a comeback for the local stay-at-home mom, who told The Voice she hadn’t stepped on the stage for three and a half years.

The time off didn’t show. She was impressive throughout her audition, got Adam Levine to spin his chair in a heartbeat, and received high praise from Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as well when her performance ended.

Gwen called her performance “gorgeous.” Adam said she has one “of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time.” Pharrell compared her vocals to a “snake charmer.”

During the interview segment before she performed, DaNica said she grew up listening to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and prefers to sing “anything soul.”

She also talked about performing at The Apollo in New York at age 15 during an adult competition that she won. And at one point she traveled to California and recorded a five-song demo.

But Danica also describes herself as “a daddy’s girl” and implied that her career aspirations got derailed when he was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and “ended up passing away.”

“It’s harder without him,” she said.

The Voice isn’t DaNica’s first attempt at a singing competition. She tried out for American Idol three times as a teenager.

And in 2008, at age 19, she traveled to California for the final round of on online competition named Total Pop Star.

She competed against five other finalists and came home with the crown. That competition was judged by Deborah Gibson, Joey Lawrence and Andrew Van Slee.

She appeared on the show with her 4-year-old daughter Aslynn and her fiance Christopher.
