Danny Gokey’s first Christian single has turned into a number one single.
“Hope in Front of Me” topped Billboard’s Christian airplay chart last week after climbing to number two the week before.
This being Billboard, there are dozens of charts. Among hot Christian singles, Danny’s is sitting at number five, the same as the week before and down one spot from the song’s peak at number four.
The single, released way back in February, is from the album of the same name. It’s sitting at number 22 on the Christian albums chart after debuting at number one the week after its release.
In other chart news …
* Kris Allen’s fine third album, “Horizons,” debuted at number 80 on the Billboard 200 last week with sales of 4,000. Check out my mini review here.
* The Swon Brothers have climbed to number 15 on the country airplay chart and number 22 on the hot country songs chart with “Later On.”
* Billboard reports that Phillip Phillips has sold 103,000 copies of his second album, “Behind the Light,” released earlier this year. His debut album went platinum with sales in excess of 1 million.

I have always thought that Danny was a way better singer than the winner. Now he is proving it with a better post Idol career. I know that there was something wrong with the voting on the night that Danny went home. No one I knew was able to get many votes in in spite of hours of trying. Then I learned about how they blocked votes for Danny during the final three at the University of Central Arkansas computer lab and then blocked Adam’s votes on the night of the final. The lesson here is that cheaters never really win. Go Danny!
