This afternoon, David Archuleta posted his last vlog before heading off on his two-year mission trip with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In a Tweet announcing the vlog, he stressed that “it’s not goodbye … it’s see you in two years.”
He spends a good portion of the video thanking the fans who helped make him a finalist on Season 7 of American Idol and who have supported him ever since.
“I wouldn’t be here without all of you guys doing what you do,” he says in the video.
“I hope you guys know I will be doing my best and trying my best to see what I can do for you guys even while I’m gone,” he adds.
At the same time, he stressed that he won’t be focused on his career for the next two years; he’ll be focused on his mission work in South America.
David is leaving behind a couple of musical treats for his fans.
His Filipino album, “Forevermore,” was just released and is available through amazon.com and Wow HD.
And he’s been putting the finishing touches on an album of covers that will be released after he departs on his mission trip. He tweeted yesterday that he was heading back into the studio to put the finishing touches on that music.
David ends his vlog: “I hope you guys enjoy the new music that will be coming out. We’ve done our best to make it the best it can be. I’ll see you all in two years. God bless.”
Then he flashes the smile his fans know so well.

I adore David – not just his gorgeous voice but also the person that he is. Everyone he works with comments on how kind and humble he is. In the 4 years we’ve known David he has never lied, never said an unkind or angry word to or about anyone, never plays the star card and promotes others above himself. He’s also full of optimism and he brings people joy and comfort. Some new people will be lucky to know him. And he worked extremely hard to create new stuff for fans the last 10 weeks – the 5 week Philippines miniseries Nandito Ako as leading man, a Philippines CD Forevermore, an upcoming music video for that, multiple photoshoots and the US album he just finished recording yesterday. David has a heart of gold, and glows like the most precious gems. I am so proud of him and feel blessed that he has changed by life for the better. His positive spirit and strong character just endear this young man to whomever he touches. He will be an amazing missionary. but will be truly missed by all his fans. God Bless him for the many sacrifices he his making to share with others. He is being true to his heart…and is one classy young man!
