David Archuleta fans support their guy

Earlier this year, they voted David the top American Idol contestant of all time via Billboard.com.

Now Billboard has posted its list of favorite Idol albums of 2010, based on fan voting.

Guess who came out on top? In other words, at number one?

That’s right, David Archuleta.

Now I think David’s “The Other Side of Down” is pretty good. Better than his first album, in fact. (Review here)

But the album has not been a huge commercial success. It debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200. Five weeks later, it had disappeared from that chart.

In contrast, Carrie Underwood’s “Play On” has owned a spot on that chart for more than a year. Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” was on the chart for nearly a year before dropping off.

And David beat some pretty prestigious company, at least in terms of album sales. (Sorry, but I cringe at putting the names Ke$ha or Justin Bieber and the word “prestigious” in the same sentence.)

Following David among the top 10 fan favorite albums were, in this order:

2. Eminem’s “Recovery,”

3. Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,”

4. Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now,”

5. JYJ’s “The Beginning,”

6. Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,”

7. Charice’s “Charise,”

8. Justin Bieber’s “World 2.0,”

9. Ke$ha’s “Animal,”

10. Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.”

Those are some pretty popular artists to top.

So, congrats, to David and his fans.

David’s fans know a good thing when they one. We hear great vocals and music. We don’t follow the status quo and buy an artist’s music because they’re popular and everyone’s buying it. Nope, we are original in our taste, have an opinion of our own, AND have a mind of our own! I’ll continue to support this guy even if I live in Europe!

I bought Archie’s Other Side of Down cd and it is really great! Now if only more non-internet fans actually knew he had a new cd out – I want to hear these songs on the radio in San Francisco!! My favorites currently are the title track plus “A Good Place” “Complain” “Falling Stars” and “My Kind of Perfect”

David has a very loyal fan base and we believe his talent is one in a million and that his time will come.

I agree that TOSOD is better than debut his album IMO. So I just don’t understand the unwillingness of radio to play David’s music because request we do.

I’m hoping that with tour and promo after the the holidays David’s album will get a second win.

David’s album is the best! Just because it hasn’t sold the most doesn’t mean anything. The radio stations wont give him a chance. His songs don’t get played no matter how good they are. The music industry is a joke. How can people buy his album if they don’t hear the songs on the radio. His album is the best. Every song on there is great vocals, meaning and beat. Love it!!!!

Yeah, we love our guy David because he is one-of-a-kind in talent & character. This extremely talented singer-songwriter brings out music that has substance but at the same time fun and uplifting. His 2nd pop album, The Other Side of Down is SUPERB and should be heard on radio all over the world.

Congrats to David and to his fans who voted him into this award.

His new album really is great and I think it’s a shame that more people have not heard it or even heard OF it. What he lacks is good national promo and marketing. But I have patience. I will wait for the rest of the world to catch up. Just hope that when that happens, they go back and check out this album too. Because they’d be missing alot otherwise.

The songs are not only refreshing and catchy but most of all, they have good message. Can’t wait to see David on tour again to hear him sing these songs live which he is really very good at!

David is as good to his fans and even to his non-fans as we are to him. He inspires me by his music, his charity work, and his commitment to being a moral, kind, and giving person. There are no tricks up David’s sleeves to get noticed or talked about in the media. He is just being himself and doing what he loves.

The David Archuleta fans are a force. They are passionate about their guy and want to, in one way or another, shout it to the rooftops. I say ‘bravo’ to the fans. They chose a great artist to support!

I know a good thing when I hear one. Add to his vocal talent; humility, an incerdible work ethic and musical diversity and you come up with someone who will be around for a long time. At the top of the charts? Only if people catch on to the ‘new’ voice in today’s music world.

Dang, I didn’t even know about this poll. lol. Yep, David’s album is awesome! It’s just that the singles haven’t been on the radio, so very few people know it exists. But when they do, watch out.

been a staunch fan and believer in this guy’s talent since the 1st time i heard him sing 2 years ago. he is just getting started, and growing into what everyone acknowledges is a formidable vocal talent. will support him until he decides to hang up the mic, which i hope is never, lol.

We choose to follow David not only because his music, which is out of this world, but also for his humanitarian tasks. I had the extreme pleasure to see David perform at the historic Majestic Theater in Dallas. Listening to David live is a spritual event. All proceeds went to the Childrens Hospital. Before and after the concert, David met with some of the kids from the hospital and their families. Why doesn’t the general public catch onto these good stories, versus the “bad boy” artists?

Billboard asked for our favorite album of 2010 so it couldn’t be any other than David’s. And while the other albums on the list have had more commercial success, success doesn’t equal quality. If David’s label had backed him, this album would have been a commercial success.

  17. Katheryn December 15, 2010 at 4:55 am -  Reply

Commercial success is rarely an indication of quality these days. “The Other Side Of Down” is a very good album in my opinion, and shows tremendous growth artistically by David Archuleta. (He co-wrote 10 of the songs on the CD by the way.) Low sales can be attributed in some degree to apathy on the part of Jive Records to promote the album and, especially, to push for radio airplay. His fans have done nearly all they can by requesting, voting, buying, tweeting, commenting, etc. It’s hard to sell CD’s when the buying public at large hasn’t heard about your songs or your album and when the music label is lax in making sure your CD’s are well stocked in the brick and mortar stores. (Thanks to reports from fans, we know they aren’t in many locales.) Jive is a joke. On the other hand the parent company, Sony, does a great job of promoting David in Asia. His songs routinely top the charts there, and DJ’s actually play his songs when they’re requested. What a concept!

David’s 19 year old life is well displayed on this album; Fun, quirky, thoughtful, positive, moving forward, accepting the life challenges and going with the flow, and still trying to find what’s there for me in his love department.
His music will change as he grows and his fans are delighted to witness the changes he will go through.

I echo everything above that has been said…David is a tremendous musical talent…The Other Side of Down is a fantastic pop CD…once you listen you get hooked to the beat and the lyrics…his songs have depth…David has both a musical soul and a humanitarian soul!

David’s fans sure are something! I think we all have the utmost love, admiration and respect for David as a singer…and as a person as well. He inspiration has changed so many lives and has encouraged us all to try to be a little “more like David”. His heart is full of goodness, and is the most genuine “unaffected” person that I have ever met. His fans not only love David…but they love each other. David’s fans have become a real family. We all share this wonderful experience of being a fan…together. We understand exactly why each of us is here. David is “The Voice and The Heart”, and they always work together to bring others so much happiness.

I just would like to add…we are not here because David is at the top of the charts. We are here because David represents something that is missing in Music and our society today. He is the “real deal”! It matters not if David is at the top of the charts or not. It matters to his fans that he is staying true to himself..in his music and his life! “The Other Side of Down” is such a refreshing…upbeat…feel good CD that needs to be heard by many more people!! His messages clearly can be used for people of all ages, and all walks of life!! We will be here supporting David for as long as we are all here.

David Archuleta’s new album “The Other Side of Down” is fantastic! David co-wrote 10 of the 12 songs on it and so each song is special in its own way. Each song is positive and doesn’t contain any of the sexualized trash that most other singers sing about! David has a fantastic voice and a refreshingly upbeat attitude about life and that is what he sings about. That is what made this album #1 for me!

I stand behind my vote for The Other Side of Down being my favorite album. David has shown tremendous growth over his debute cd. It really is a very solid album and I say kudos to David!

Love the album, love the individual songs (especially “Good Place”, “MKOP”, “Complain”, “TOSOD”, “Falling Stars”, etc.), love the artist, not just for his voice, but for who he is.

With good promotion, David will be a superstar commercially; however, he really is a superstar for just being himself and all that he does for others.
